Annathe — Is the movie a failure?
The most anticipated movie of the year, Annathe, starring superstar Rajinikanth has been a major crowd puller. The film which was released on the occasion of Diwali joined the “100 crores” club at the worldwide box office in just two days.
On the day of release itself, the movie collected 70.19 crores (2.02 crores from only chennai), but as soon as the negative reviews started buzzing over social media, there was a huge dip and the collection was just 42.63 crores on the next day.
Subsequently, it reduced even further on the third and fourth day, having collected 33.71 crores and 28.20 crores worldwide. On the 5th and 6th day it was only 11.85 crores and 12.17 crores. The values might seem diminishing, but considering the pandemic and climate conditions in Chennai, Annathe has managed to pull off 200 crores within a week, which is quite a great achievement.
However, the film has highly disappointed the audience in terms of the script. Annathe tried to be viswasam and Vedalam but failed while imitating. The climax of the movie was an “expected end” which was exactly what “nobody wanted”. Annathe felt like a Television drama, and no one could believe its a “150 crores” budget movie.
Watching the superstar’s movie on the FDFS ( First day First Show ) with the crowd cheering up by whistling and making atrocities hits different. The rumour, Annathe is the last film of Rajinikanth’s career as the 70-year-old man is suffering from health issues, had wanted people to experience the emotion in theatres. Maybe if it was not for Rajinikanth, then the disappointment would have been lesser.
Overall, Annathe has badly failed to impress the audience but we will have to wait for a few more days to see if it is a “commercially successful” one or not.
